Everyday, just before my daughter leaves the car in the morning to run to her classroom, I’ve formed a habit to blurt out a quick “positive-reminder” right before she closes the car door. After a couple of years doing this, I found that it’s a great way to jumpstart your kids day.
Mornings in my house are very fast paced. There’s never a moment to dilly-dally, and our morning routine is pretty much the same everyday (wake up, change clothes, brush teeth, eat breakfast, and scurry out the door).
So I’ve come up with a few “positive-reminders” that I say to my daughter right before she goes to school, to leave her with a little something to keep in the back of her mind at school.
Here’s a list of some positive reminders that I use all the time:
“Be a good influence to your friends!”

Ah, peer pressure.. It’s such a big thing in school. I remember when I was young, my mom used to tell me to stay away from the “bad kids” so I can stay out of trouble. Problem with that is, sometimes the “bad kids” aren’t the only ones that can influence a child to do something wrong.
In order to help your child gain self control and confidence, you need to help them realize that they can be the one to change a bad situation into a good situation with their influence.
“Make good memories today!”

Everyday our kids make memories whether they know this or not. Usually when I hear the statement, “lets make this day memorable” I all of a sudden to want to do things that I usually would let my fears hold me back from.
So, maybe if our kids hear this statement right before starting their day at school, they’ll be a little more adventurous and carpe diem throughout their day. It’ll give them that little push to do more fun things with their friends.
“Remember to be a leader, not a follower.”

Have you ever noticed when kids get together, they end up copying each other (whether its something good or bad)? I always found it so interesting how that happens. So, I like to make sure my little one knows that she doesn’t always have to follow what others are doing just to fit in.
“Laugh a lot today!”
Oh I love this one. Every time I give this positive reminder when I drop my daughter off, I always follow it up later when I pick her up with, “how much did you laugh today?” I always get such a positive response from her, and she ends up telling me about all the things that made her laugh that day. It’s a great bonding experience.
“Be a good friend.”

It’s so important to teach your child HOW to be a good friend and that being a good friend takes practice. Teaching your child to be a good friend, not just towards the people they hang out with, but towards others that are around them will help them build strong relationships in the future. So make sure they remember to be a good friend to everyone around them.
