If you’re ever in Okinawa, make sure to put this hike to Fukugawa Falls on your things-to-do list! This quick 30 minute hike to the falls is great if you have kids, or want to get a glimpse of the beautiful falls without a long hike!
Fukugawa Falls

When you get there
There’s no official parking lot for Fukugawa falls, but there is plenty of room to find a parking spot in case other people are already there hiking. You’ll see a pathway right off of the opening where people park their cars, it has a chain rope right at the entrance of the trail; which can be misleading to those who don’t know where the path is.

Be advised
Please be mindful that if you do decide to bring your dogs, to clean up after them. We didn’t notice the ‘no dogs’ sign until after we finished our hike, and we weren’t sure if it said ‘no dogs allowed’ or ‘keep dogs on leash’. Nevertheless, make sure to be responsible for your fur babies.

The paths
The paths are wide enough to find your way through without guessing if you’re going the right way or not. And there’s nothing too tricky on the path that would stop you or your kids from getting to the falls. I would suggest to bring some water shoes with you in a bag, there are some parts of the trail that will definitely get your feet wet! Although, I wouldn’t advise you or your kids to hike in water shoes!

Once you pass the small creek, you’ll get to a beautiful bridge (which is totally photo op worthy!)

Picnic area
There is a nice little seating area to rest and grab a bite to eat right before you get to the falls. If you have little ones, this is a great time to check in and make sure they’re hydrated and not too exhausted.

Right before you get to the falls, you’ll see a staircase leading up to it. Make sure to hold your kids’ hands when going up and down these steps, they’re pretty slippery when you get closer to the falls.

Once you get to the bottom of the staircase, you’ll see the most beautiful sight. Some people swim in the falls since there are no signs that say otherwise. Just make sure you take this opportunity to take lots of pictures!
